"OPERATION MATT BUMPUS" DINNER AND SILENT
ACUTION A HUGE SUCCESS
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the "Operation Matt Bumpus" Silent Auction and Dinner that was held on
Friday, September 12th at the Auburn Country Club. It was a fantastic evening! In fact, it far exceeded our wildest dreams.
Approximately 300 people attended and all greatly enjoyed the wonderful and lively music of the Halie O'Ryan Band. The quality
and number of auction items that were donated was truly astonishing. We had so many items that we used every available table
that the Auburn Country Club had indoors and out, and even then had items lined up on chairs in the hallways! With ticket sales,
auction items and donations approximately $25,000 was raised. This money will be used to cover any outstanding medical
expenses and to assist Matt's widow, Lisa and the boys with living expenses.
The incredible generosity and kindness of those who donated, attended and bought auction items is overwhelming. Special
mention must be made to the following people who made this event possible:
We are in the process of creating
of an educational, non-profit
foundation.
We are in the process of creating a non-profit, educational foundation. The purpose of the
foundation will be to educate and assist active service members, veterans and their families
who may have chemical/radiation exposure after their service in Iraq. The foundation will also
focus on promoting the importance of the Gulf War Exam. The foundation will be named
"Operation Matt Bumpus" in memory of Matt and other veterans who have given their lives in
service to their country, after chemical/radiation exposure and ensuing leukemia/cancer.
The majority of the veterans we are hearing from that have had exposure and then developed
leukemia/cancer and are all getting the same denials from the Veterans Administration. The
V.A. is denying these men and women stating that their illnesses are not connected to their time
of service as it did not manifest within one year of their last date of service. Some of the
veterans we are in contact with are in active service and the V.A. is still denying a service
connection.
